Orthodox Menologion

Very happy to introduce the app I’ve been working on this Summer.

It’s an upgrade of the Orthodox Calendar app, in the sense that it contains all the icons and lives of saints (or feasts descriptions), a total of 3.290 texts and over 2.000 icons. Like the Orthodox Calendar app, this one too does not require Internet connection to work, allowing you to read your daily spiritual nourishment at any place and at any time.

It contains notes about the periods of the liturgical year and the fasting dates, but you are warmly advised to not rely only on those notes, but to rather speak to your priest about fasting details.

The app is fully in Russian, and is currently available for Android and BlackBerry 10 devices, with support for more platforms on the way!

The app uses contents from the renowned Azbyka.ru portal, as well as from the “From Pascha to Pascha” calendar by the St Maximus the Greek fund.

The app is free, get it today!

Sony SmartWatch and BlackBerry 10

Not so long ago, I got an amazing Z10 from Marmalade (thanks to them once again), and it’s such nice hardware and OS, I’m using it as my main device ever since. One of the things I missed, however, was my SmartWatch, which works only with Android devices.

However, not much was needed for it to be able to work with BlackBerry 10’s Android player, main thing was Bluetooth. Thus, I was really excited when I heard the announcement that the next version of BB10 would include Bluetooth support. And when I found a leaked version of that OS, it only took some repackaging and simple tweaks to get the SmartWatch connected to the phone.

Here’s a video demo, which uses some of my apps: the Dialer, SMS Composer and Sound Meter.

Not everything works, as there are still some BlackBerry limitations on its Android player, but if Sony and BlackBerry fancy this combination, all that can be overcame very easily.

Orthodox Calendar for BlackBerry PlayBook

Glad to announce the release of the English version of the Orthodox Calendar for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet!

The Orthodox Calendar application for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, as well as my other calendar apps, includes the full calendar of feast and saints. It does not require internet connection, so it will work even if you are on places such as the Holy Mount of Athos, or on Mount Sinai.

The application is solely in English and can display both the old (Julian) and the new (Gregorian) calendar (there is a setting for the Calendar style).

Fasting rules are also displayed, but you are kindly asked not too rely too much on them, they are accurate, but you should consult your priest for the details.

The application enables browsing the calendar and jumping to a specified date, both in the past and in the future.

Uniquely, the application enables jumping to a certain date related to the Paschal cycle of the year, both in the past and in the future!

A link to the Prologue of Ohrid of St Nikolai Velimirovic for each day is also included.

Russian Orthodox Calendar for BlackBerry phones

Glad to introduce the Orthodox Calendar app for the BlackBerry smartphones. Compatible models are most of the phones with OS version 4.6 or above.

The BlackBerry version of the calendar includes the full calendar of saints, which makes it distinguishable, in addition to the fact that it doesn’t require internet connection. On a BlackBerry this may seem irrelevant, but one might find himself without internet connection even on a BlackBerry device, while on roaming or on places such as the Holy Mount of Athos, or the Mount Sinai.

Apart from that, the app includes links to an online calendar, with lifes of the saints, services, icons and daily readings, and a link to the official typikon for the services of the Russian Orthodox Church.

It follows the old (i.e. Julian) calendar and is fully in Russian language.
